The move has come after the province’s proposal due to its location next to Cambodia and near Thailand which are witnessing a sharp rise in viral infections.
Following Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long’s instruction, a rapid response task force of Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City were sent to Kien Giang to support the work. Before leaving for Kien Giang, Cho Ray Hospital’s Director Nguyen Tri Thuc had an urgent meeting with the group for the specific assignment.

One field hospital with 300-500 beds will be built in Ha Tien City, while another with some 500 beds will be built in Rach Gia City.
The team will help the province to build a modern intensive care unit at Ha Tien General Hospital to provide treatment for Covid-19 patients in serious condition. They will also assist in instructing Kien Giang’s medical staff in difficult skills in intensive care, including the ECMO technique.
The minister has asked HCM City Pasteur Institute to support Covid-19 testing labs in Kien Giang.
The province is seeking the Ministry of Health’s permission for the Covid-19 vaccine supply for all residents in Phu Quoc District. This is aimed to help the district to ensure safer tourism.
