Blind couple calls for help for ill son
A couple in Binh Dinh Province are in need of financial support to help cover medical treatment for their son.
Binh was born in Nhon Khanh Commune, An Nhon Town. He lost one of his arms at the age of 7 when playing with a grenade left from the American War. At 9, he became completely blind. Afterwards, he took a music class opened by a blind couple in the area. Binh wanted to play music for some money on the street.
He later married the couple's daughter who is also blind and they both played music on the street to earn money in HCM City. They have four children together who are all healthy at birth.
Unfortunately, their eldest son, 38-year-old Nguyen Phuoc Hung, was diagnosed with meningitis during the 2021 New Year Holiday and has been bed-bounded since then.
"When he said his limbs were numb, we thought it would be sciatica. But then he started losing his vision so we brought him to Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital. He was later transferred to Cho Ray Hospital and then Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City," Binh said. "Doctors said he had meningitis caused by tuberculosis and encephalitis. His backside has necrosis from laying too long on the bed."
Hung did not have health insurance and depends on charity meals when they went to the hospital. Kind people also donated money to help them buy health insurance. All of Binh and Huong's children had to drop out of school early and went Ho Chi Minh City to work at factories for little income.
Vo Tien Si, chairman of Nhon Khanh Commune, said Binh was given a monthly allowance for disabled people but it was not enough.
"They are desperately in need of financial help. I hope Dantri will help connect kind people with Binh's family," Si said.
