Additional 15,743 Covid-19 cases confirmed on Tuesday

An additional 15,743 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Vietnam on Tuesday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of patients with over 2,900 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.


According to the ministry's report, 15,699 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,956), Danang (989), Hai Phong (704), Thanh Hoa (685), and Hung Yen (623). There were 44 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 1,392 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,733 infections found in the community.

As of Tuesday evening, 2,164,794 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (512,970), Binh Duong (292,584), Hanoi (114,384), Dong Nai (99,717), and Tay Ninh (87,435). Vietnam has so far confirmed 163 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,171,527. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On January 25, an additional 62,889 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,904,069.

On Tuesday evening, a further 126 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,010. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (18), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (9), Tien Giang (9), Vinh Long (9), Can Tho (8 ), and Hai Phong (7).

Vietnam on January 24 administered 943,564 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 177.38 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 73.86 million people having received two doses.
