Teachers complain about overwork

Many teachers are saying they don’t have time to improve their teaching skills because of time consuming but unnecessary tasks.

They say local education authorities are giving them too much extra work so they cannot find time even to prepare lesson plans, let alone think of innovative teaching methods, which is highly recommended, if not required, by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Meetings of all sorts for instance are the most time consuming responsibility.

Paperwork comes second as many teachers are often requested to prepare a myriad of academic documents which contain overlapping information.

Events rank third on the list. Teachers frequently have to drag themselves from contest to contest, attending anniversaries of all kinds, and partaking in musical and sport competitions reluctantly.

Keeping a record of the fees they collect from students and a wide range of other unnamed assignments also add weight to the burden and almost make them exhausted.
