Hyperactive kids separated for special education

Ho Chi Minh City’s An Phu 1 Primary School knows how to make hyperactive students behave by allowing them to have their ways in a separate and fully-equipped classroom.

Almost everyday since 2007 when it was created, this special classroom has received more newcomers.

Here, these more active kids aren’t scolded but coaxed. And if they can sit still for at least 15 minutes to study math or Vietnamese, they will be allowed to have fun.

Compared to normal classrooms, they can have plenty of fun in this special class, which has colorful pictures on the walls, toys, a TV set and a video cassette player.

“Once they better behave, they will be sent back to normal classes,” said Vo Thi Vua, the classroom’s head teacher.

Le Van Bong, the school’s principal, said naughty students should be separated from other students so that they wouldn’t affect others’ study.

Yet at the same time, they should still be given a place to study and play.

He said this special classroom had thus proven effective.
