Danang tackles food safety and hygiene violations

The municipal Department of Health opened a meeting on August 23 to review the inspection of over nearly 5,000 food production and trading businesses since the beginning of this year.

Among 726 cases, local authorities fined over 100 businesses a combined VND140 million (USD6,717).

Most of the violation cases related to the trading in substandard and expired goods, and illegally imported food.

In addition to the inspection, the department has co-ordinated with local authorities to disseminate information about food safety and hygiene to nearly 20,000 residents. It has also held training for nearly 6,000 people.

The city’s steering committee for food safety and hygiene plans to expand the inspection citywide in the time to come, with first priority given to products for the upcoming Mid-autumn festival.

Due attention will be paid to ensuring food safety and the prevention of food-related diseases.
