Strong windstorm causes widespread damage in Dong Thap Province

A strong windstorm hit Hong Ngu District in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on Saturday, collapsing 13 homes and severely damaging about 30 others.

The windstorm devastated hundreds of hectares of vegetable crops across Phu Thuan B Commune in the district also uprooting many trees.

The fallen trees blocked traffic on several roads of the commune. Many of the injured residents were moved to the Hong Ngu Hospital.

Initial damages to the district are estimated to reach billions of dong.

Doan Ngoc Nhi, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee in Phu Thuan B Commune, said they are working with relevant authorities to help residents overcome the aftermaths of the windstorm.
