HCM City’s traffic police on March 4 detected three tons of rotten chicken on a 50-seat bus. The driver said that he was hired to transport the meat to a primary school.

The bus was seized on National Highway 1A, on the way from Tan Phu district of Dong Nai province to Dong Thap province.

At HCM City’s Thu Duc animal quarantine station, police officers asked the driver, Le Huy Cuong, 46, from the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, to open the door for inspection. When the door opened, those present could not stand the stench from thousands of blue chicken, which were wrapped in plastic bags.

According to police, the bus carried 2,900kg of rotten chickens and chicken internal organs.

The driver said that a woman in Tan Phu district, of Dong Nai province, named Nguyen Thi Kim Anh, had hired him to transport this batch of chicken to a primary school.

The driver was fined and the chickens were culled.
