An endangered bird species, Mi Langbian (Crocias langbianbis), has just been confirmed to be living in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum.

David Bishop, an officer from Victor Emanuel Nature Tours (VENT), discovered the bird while guiding a tourist delegation to Mang Den, Kon Tum.

The discovery revealed an expanded habitat for one of the world’s most precious species of bird, as the sighting was some 250 km south of its previous known habitat.

According to Le Trong Trai, a senior official in the International Bird Conservation Organization in Vietnam (Birdlife International), this is the first time that the Mi Langbian species was found in Kon Tum.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed Mi Langbian in the Red Book as a species which is at a high risk of extinction.
