At least 7 foreigners injured in bus accident

A bus carrying 30 foreigners and 10 Vietnamese turned over at the Co Ma Pass in Khanh Hoa Province at 4 am yesterday morning, causing injuries to 13 passengers, including at least 7 foreigners.

All the victims, two of whom are in a serious condition, were taken to Khanh Hoa General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Some of the victims had broken arms while some others suffered from wounds in the shoulders and legs, said Nguyen Van Xang, the hospital’s deputy director.


The hospital has received seven foreigners: Casse Rtom Melsen, 21, from Denmark; two French nationals: Boghait Lucie, 27, and Bovin Sinon, 28; and four British nationals, namely Liam Donneliy, 20, Jonas Lion, 22, Anmelies Claeskens, 21, and Melissa Poulton, 18.


All of the foreigners have recovered after being treated, Xang said.


The bus, which was travelling from Hue to Nha Trang, suddenly turned over when it reached the foot of the pass in Co Ma hamlet, Van Ninh District, witnesses said.


According to VnExpress, the vehicle had sunk into a pothole before turning over.


The bus’ driver was Nguyen Van Khuong, 44, of Binh Dinh Province, and the bus is operated by Cuc Tung Company.


The accident caused heavy congestion lasting four hours on the National Highway 1A section in the district.

Local police are investigating.
