For the first time, the southern province of Dong Thap has occupied the top position in the Vietnam Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) 2012 ranking, followed by An Giang, Lao Cai, Binh Dinh and Vinh Long Provinces. The PCI 2012 was announced on March 14 in Hanoi.
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Chairman Vu Tien Loc said that the PCI is an important index to help local authorities realize the effects of their business governance, thus, have appropriate measures to improve the business environment in order to promote trade and investment.

Representing the first-ranked locality, Chairman of the Dong Thap provincial People’s Committee Le Minh Hoan attributed the high ranking to the province’s strong improvements, such as promoting successful socio-economic development models, organizing business forums, and the implementing co-operative schemes among localities, enterprises and farmers.

Dong Thap has collected opinions from the business community and the media to complete its administrative reform process and support enterprises, he said. “We understand that investors will not only bring the capital but also the knowledge of business to the province,” he said, adding that Dong Thap will continue to solve its weaknesses, improve the business environment and enhance the business governance.

The PCI 2012 conducted surveys on more than 8,000 enterprises and entrepreneurs of all 63 cities and provinces to collect their opinions to measure the economic governance and business environment in localities.
