Unsatisfied with the forensic results on the cause of a young man's death, thousands of people in Vinh Phuc Province have carried his coffin as part of a protest.

On the morning of March 17, the heavily injured body of the 27 year-old Nguyen Tuan Anh was found in a sewer in Vinh Yen City.

The forensic report said Anh had been drunk and fallen into the sewer and the fall had led to the injuries.

Popular opinion however believes he was murdered, prompting one thousand to attend Anh's funeral and marched on the streets to Vinh Phuc Provincial Headquarters that afternoon.

Following the protest, local authorities then decided to expand the investigation on Anh's death.

According to Anh's relative, Anh had a dispute with a group of men on March 15 before going missing.

There are rumours that Anh may be killed by the son-in-law of the chairman of Vinh Phuc Province. However Phung Quang Hung, Chairman of Vinh Phuc Province People's Committee denied the accusation.

"It's impossible, they're complete strangers. Anh might have went for a drink and had disputes with someone," he said.

Bui Minh Hong, spokesman of Vinh Phuc Province said the investigation team from the Ministry of Public Security had joined forces with the provincial team to investigate the case. "We will ensure justice is done in this case." he said.

During the investigation, the police detained four suspects and issued arrest warrants for one other who remains missing. The case is still under investigation.
