Haiphong police seize two tonnes of illegal ivory
The Haiphong Customs Department yesterday said they seized 1,167 pieces of elephant tusks weighing 2.1 tonnes and 146.5 kilograms of tortoise shell being illegally transported to the city.

Haiphong customs officials on October 3 found the tusks and tortoise shell, which were stashed in bags of shells, in a shipping container that had been transported to the northern port city from Malaysia.
The owner of the container, Haiphong Import Export Services And Trading Company, earlier reported to the officials that they were transporting two tonnes of shells.According to Tuoitre Newspaper, the shipment was supposed to be transferred by road to the Lang Son border post, heading for China.
The trading of elephant tusks and tortoise shell are banned according to the Cites Convention
Haiphong Customs Department is still investigating the case.
