According to Thang, the screws used in the construction process were not to standard and led to the collapse of the suspension bridge in Lai Chau Province on February 24, which claimed eight lives and injured 38.
During a meeting held on February 28, the minister said that the initial findings of the investigative task force set up to investigate the incident indicated faulty screws improperly attached to girders caused the collapse.
Thang said that the district of Tam Duong had overseen the construction of the bridge, which was carried out by a local company.

After the accident, the prime minister requested that all public infrastructure works in residential areas be cleared in the designing stages, along with full viability assessments.
The spotlight has recently fallen on a number of high-rise building projects in Hanoi with private investors, whose management boards are responsible for safety requirements.
