Despite the massive search efforts of dozens ships and aircraft on the fourth day, evidence related to the missing Malaysian airliner remains lost at sea.

Aircraft take off from Tan Son Nhat Airport

After receiving report that debris was spotted at sea near Vung Tau yesterday afternoon, search teams from Thailand, Panama, China and Liberia have arrived at the location but were unable to find anything.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Pham Quy Tieu, said they will send out more search teams and widen the area by 20,000 square km today, March 11.

As the search continues, waters along the designed flight path are being scoured and the area of search continues to widen. Tieu asked authorities of Kien Giang Province to prepare for rescue work in case they find the aircraft or any possible survivors. He also asked fishermen to take notice of any floating objects.

 Search team discusses locations

Malaysian authorities asked to continue both sea and land searches until the plane is found. The crews will also go over all locations that have been previously searched over the last three days. The International Civil Aviation Organisation has given no time limit search operations.

After the Malaysian government announced that they would widen the search area, the US government yesterday assigned a second ship, the USS Kidd, to join the USS Pinckney in the South China Sea to find the missing jetliner. The two ships are equipped with MH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters, which have infrared cameras for nighttime search operations.

The Boeing 777-200 of Malaysia Airlines suddenly dropped off the radar with no distress signal or indications of trouble. The plane was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members.
