The Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (VietJet Air) has announced that it will launch a new international route – between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore - from May 23 to meet the increasing travel demand.

The low-cost airline will conduct seven round flights with 2,520 seats per week on the route, which is the second international air route following its first one to Bangkok, Thailand.

It is now operating more than 600 flights per week, on 23 domestic and international routes, by a fleet of 11 leased A320s.

The airline plans to open more routes to several regional countries such as Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea and Japan in 2014.

Started to fly in late 2011, the budget carrier has recently finalised an order with Airbus Group to purchase and lease 100 aircraft with a total contract value of 9.1 billion USD.

In 2013, it transported more than 4.3 million passengers, accounting for about 26 percent of the domestic market share.
