Typhoon Rammasun, also known as Glenda, is on a path that leads to it making landfall in Nam Dinh and Haiphong, according to the latest bulletin from the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

The Centre also forecast that Rammasun is on track to strike an area between Vietnam’s northern Quang Ninh province and its neighbouring Guangzhou province of China.

The Central Steering Committee on Flood and Storm Prevention and Control held an emergency meeting on July 15 to work out last minute measures against the typhoon, which has already moved into the East Sea.

The typhoon is moving towards mainland, and may cause torrential rains of 200mm - 300mm on July 19-20.

The Central Steering Committee on Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has sent an urgent telegram urging coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Phu Yen to keep a close watch on Rammasun’s developments and draw up effective prevention plans.

Around 71,000 boats and 300,000 workers from Quang Ninh province in the north to Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in the south have also been put on alert to safeguard lives and property from the storm.
