As the ship approached Nam Thinh Wharf, it was struck by a large wave 500 meters from port, causing it to sink.
The Tien Hai District rescue team reacted reacted immediately after being notified. Only seven of the crew members knew how to swim, and were saved. Six others, one male and five females, did not know how to swim and were drowned.
As of 9am, all six bodies were found and returned to their families.
