Government to offer rewards for corruption whistle blowers

Corruption whistle blowers may be awarded up to VND5bn, an official from the Government's Inspectorate indicated.

Pham Trong Dat, director of the Government Inspectorate’s Department of Anti-Corruption, said the Ministries of Finance and Home Affairs and the Government Inspectorate have reached an agreement about the award for individuals who have great contribution to anti-corruption efforts.

Dat said a joint circular about the issue would be signed by leaders from the Government Inspectorate and the Ministry of Home Affairs, to be issued by the end of the week.

“Funding for the awards would come from various sources including proceeds from coruption cases, state and local budget for anti-corruption,” he said.

Outstanding corupttion whistleblowers may also be awarded the Medal of Bravery or the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit or Certificate of Merit. Financial awards would depend on the amount of corruption exposed or prevented.

They would involve cases worth VND300m to the trillions of VND, and rewards could be worth up to VND5bn.
