Hanoi-Performance of Music Theatre and Documentary Film Project “Arrival Cities: Hanoi

Arrival Cities: Hanoi is a music theatre and documentary film project with the Vietnamese Swedish group The Six Tones, dealing with the dissolution of the relationship with tradition that urbanization brings. In the performance, multiple voices and perspectives create an expansive portrait of a city vibrant of memories from the Vietnamese countryside. Arrival Cities: Hanoi builds a narrative from the life story of Lưu Ngọc Nam, an actor and costume maker in traditional Tuồng theatre. His travels in the country, the home­sickness and his life long love for Tuồng theatre becomes the point of departure for a piece of music theatre set at the threshold between traditional and urban culture. The piece was premiered in Sweden in November 2014.

A seminar in which members of The Six Tones discuss the working process with the Swedish director Jörgen Dahlqvist will take place in the DOCLAB series at the Goethe Institute on April 6 at 18:00.

Hanoi-Trio Vivo from Denmark Plays Music of the Romanticism

The expression ‘Vivo’ is used to describe music that is vivid, intense and brilliant. That is very fitting for these three, young and passionate musicians from Denmark, who have made their mark on the Danish music scene as both soloists and chamber musicians.

Trio Vivo will perform two major works by Brahms and Schumann, two of the most important composers of German Romanticism, as well as a piece by late-Romantic Danish composer Rued Langgaard and a tango by Astor Piazzolla. “Trio Vivo” will be accompanied by the violinist Nguyễn Mỹ Hương and the Danish violist Nicolaj Moeller Nielsen, who currently lives in Hanoi. Characteristic of “Trio Vivo” is the combination of great technical mastery and deep dedication.

HCMC – Exhibition “Day by Day”

A solo exhibition of Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, an internationally award-winning artist, based in Hue. The exhibition consists of four interrelated serial artworks in various media, which draw on one year of extensive research by the artist in several small fishing communities in Siem Reap and Pursat, Cambodia as well as in Long An, Vietnam.

Hanoi-Photography Exhibition “War Reporters”

Organized 40 years after the war ended, this exhibition offers the rare opportunity to see the photos by the 4 Vietnamese photographers, Doan Cong Tinh, Chu Chi Thanh, Mai Nam and Hua Kiem. This is also a remarkable event during The International Photojournalism Festival of Perpignan founded by Patrick Chauvel. The exhibition will undoubtedly offer the audience new insights to the Vietnam war.

“Lotus gives me real emotions about myself, and helps me look into the inner self. The more I paint Lotus the more I understand about it” – Vu Tuyen.

Vu Tuyen, born in 1977, has had a few solo exhibitions such as “Impermanence”, “Color of Love” and group exhibitions such as “Symbiosis”, “Feel – Dream”.

An art exhibition VIETNAM – MALAYSIA – THAILAND. This is the first water color exhibition ever takes place in Vietnam for artists from those 3 countries. From Vietnam, there are artists: Phan Cẩm Thượng, Doãn Hoàng Lâm, Vương Văn Thạo, Hà Mạnh Thắng, Phạm Huy Thông, Đoàn Xuân Tặng, Vũ Phạm Trường Minh, Ngô Quang Dương, Lưu Bảo Trung, Bùi Duy Khánh, Trương Văn Ngọc. From Thailand, there are 2 artists: Direk Kingnok, Suwit Jaipom. And there is 9 other artist from Malaysia: Chow Chin Chuan, Chua Cha Hui, Chua Cheng Koon, Leong Kim Kuan, Tan Suz Chiang, Tang Moon Kian, Yong Look Lam, Long Thien Shin, Angelo.

Hanoi-Smile! Temporary Art reveals a different world

An exhibition titled "Smile!" by Plonk&Replonk, artist-brother duo Hubert and Jacques Froidevaux explore the endless possible uses of humour in various art forms: objects, sculptures, installations, light boxes, postcards and graphic prints. Characterised by a mix of black humour and wicked wit that borders on the sarcastic and mischievous, Plonk&Replonk deal with internationally relevant topics such as environment, globalisation, education and consumerism with both criticality and lightheartedness.

By turning ordinary objects, habits and events upside-down, Plonk&Replonk ask us to look at reality in another.

Ha Long City- Cherry blossom festival

The third cherry blossom festival, entitled "Peace – Propensity – Co-operation and Development" will include various art exchange activities by Vietnamese and Japanese artists.

About 500 branches of Japanese cherry blossoms will be displayed at the festival.

On this occasion, children from Japan's north-eastern region that suffered twin disasters of earthquake and tsunami in 2011, will give cherry blossom saplings to local children as thank you gifts for their support during the past four years.
