Public buses in HCM City will be fitted with security cameras to deter pickpockets and sexual harassment.

Cameras already in place on 51 buses

Cameras will be installed on all buses by the end of next year. Each bus will have cameras covering three angles.

Nguyen Van Trieu, chairman of Cooperative 19/5, told DTiNews that, of 430 buses operating on 18 routes, 51 buses have already been fitted with cameras.

“Camera installation is expected to increase safety of passengers, and prevent pickpocketing and sexual harassment,” Trieu said.

The project is expected to cost VND13m for each bus, with monthly operation costs estimated at VND400,000 each.
