Overloaded trucks destroying Ha Tinh roads
National Highway 12C in Ky Anh District is falling apart due to overloaded trucks from adjacent gemstone mines.
Trucks have carved trenches 10cm deep in some parts, endangering the safety of car and motorbike drivers using the highway. There is a proliferation of potholes, and the roadway is littered with rocks.
Authorities have been unable to keep pace with repairs.
Regular users of the highway say they have learned to slow down in badly affected areas, but that does not prevent accidents. Motorcyclists have resorted to using footpaths.
