Three transport police officers in the southern province of Dong Nai have been suspended after a clip which accused them of involving in attacking a woman at a traffic checkpoint.

The incident was revealed when the woman released a short video about the argument between her and the policemen on her Facebook on September 4.

The woman, Hong Anh said that on that day she and her boyfriend were travelling from Dong Nai to HCM City, they were suddenly stopped by the three transport police officers at a checkpoint on Highway 51. They demanded she pay a fine of VND500,000 for speeding.

Her boyfriend agreed to pay the fine, but Anh did not and she asked the policemen to explain what the fine was for and started arguing. At that time, a plain-clothed man who was stood near the uniformed officers, shoved her and hit her face, causing her mouth to bleed.

After the assault the couple were then taken to a nearby station and apologised to. Initially, the plain-clothed man named Pham Minh Tri refused to admit he had attacked Anh, saying that he just hit her by accident. However, when Anh showed him the clip, he admitted his mistake and apologised and provided supposed compensation of VND2 million.

In the video, one of the police officers Vo Chi Cong said Tri was his friend, and defending his actions as just “temporary angriness”.

“I am very surprised that Tri could be angry enough to try and attack me just because I had a disagreement with the police officers actually wearing uniform. Cong said Tri was his friend, but at that time Tri was holding a pile off traffic violation papers,” Hoang Anh said.

Anh suggested that Tri was there to offer "assistance" to the police officers to help with difficult members of the public they stop at the check point. Dong Nai police are investigating her accusations.
