The nominees for Bui Xuan Phai – For Love of Ha Noi Awards have been announced by the Vietnam News Agency's daily The Thao & Van Hoa (Culture & Sport) newspaper.

The awards, with categories such as Job Prize, Work Prize and Idea Prize, will be given to people who have done research and work focusing on Ha Noi.

There are nine nominees for the awards. The Job Prize category will consider the establishment of the Ha Noi Studying and Development Centre, a series of events and activities under the project Ha Noi Dep va Chua Dep (Ha Noi – Good and Bad) and the contributions of policeman Le Duc Doan in maintaining social security.

The idea to establish the Ha Noi Studying and Development Centre was formed in the year 2000 by history professors Phan Huy Le and the late Tran Quoc Vuong.

It was established to help the Ha Noi People's Committee resolve urgent issues in the fields of economy, politics, society and culture, as well as environment and international co-operation.

The Ha Noi – Good and Bad Project, launched by the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will run at least till 2020.

Retired policeman Le Duc Doan has been nominated for his great efforts to save nearly 40 people who attempted suicide during his years of work at Chuong Duong Bridge.

Retired policeman Le Duc Doan is nominated for the awards' Job Prize.

He was recorgnised as Ha Noi's Outstanding Citizen 2012.

In the Work Prize category, the three nominations are a photo book entitled Ha Noi Capital by Germany's Dr Michael Waibel, two books on Ha Noi by author Tran Chien and the documentary series Hard Rails Across A Gentle River by a team of authors.

The large Ha Noi Capital book's annotations are in Vietnamese, English and German.

It has 600 photos that promote the capital's millennium-old history, rich culture and multifaceted lifestyle.

It is Waibel's second work on Vietnamese metropolises. It has several writings by local people and reflects the challenges faced during the sustainable development of the capital and by its residents.

Documentary series Hard Rails Across A Gentle River won the Best Asean Documentary Award at the second Salaya International Documentary Film Festival in Bangkok. It focuses on community living under Long Bien Bridge.

Three other entries comprise a project on dam construction in Hong (Red) River Delta by a group of scientists from the Viet Nam Science Irrigation Works Institute and the Viet Nam National Committee on Large Dams and Water Resources Development; a project to restore space at Kinh Thien Palace in Thang Long Imperial Citadel by Thang Long Vestiges Preservation Centre; and a project to preserve and develop 18 Hoang Dieu Archaeological Site by the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
