The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just informed the ICAO Regional Office about unidentified aircraft operating in Ho Chi Minh flight information region from January 1 to 6.

The aircraft cut through some of the civil air routes and allegedly affected the safety of flight operation in the area.

In the report to ICAO Regional Office, Lai Xuan Thanh, director general of Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, wrote that Vietnamese air traffic control had not received any flight plans and HCM City ACC did not receive any radio contact from the aircraft.

"The operation of such aircraft could violate ICAO regulations," the Vietnamese report claimed.

On January 6, China said it had flown two aircraft to an artificially-enlarged island in the East Sea.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh condemned the activities and asked China to not repeat similar moves and to respect the international law and stop carrying out actions to complicate the situation.

He said, "Once again, we strongly object such action by China. This act is a serious infringement of Vietnam sovereignty and threatens the security and stability of the region as well as the freedom of navigation and aviation."
