A Chinese man found drifting in the Gulf of Tonkin has been rescued while floating at sea by fishermen from Quang Binh Province, the provincial coastguard said.

They said the man was found adrift at mid-night on January 4 by a fishing boat owned by Nguyen Van Hau of Quang Binh Province's Ba Don District some 94 nautical miles from Hon La Port.

Hau and seven fishermen on the boat took him to a border post for treatment.

The man identified himself as Xu Zi Li, born in 1976, from Fujian, China. On the evening of January 3, he was drinking and fell overboard from a cruise ship.

Li will be handed over to his relatives in China when he is fully recovered.
