To attain the annual growth rate of 7% in the next five years, the country is stepping up reform, improving governance capacity and institutions, and promoting democracy, the Government chief said.
He called on the IMF to further assist Vietnam in policy making process and heightening the country’s prestige on the international arena.
Ms. Christine Lagarde said the IMF is planning to provide training assistance to Vietnam apart from financial support.
She showed strong impressions on Vietnam’s comprehensive socio-economic development achievements during the past years, noticeably economic stability, low inflation, and sharp poverty reduction.
Ms. Christine Lagarde suggested Vietnam should raise productivity and business competitiveness to spur development.
The IMF expects deeper and more effective cooperation with Vietnam, standing ready to back the country to realize the Millennium Development Goals, she confirmed.
Earlier, the IMF Managing Director had separate working sessions with Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Van Binh and Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung.
