Newly-elected President Tran Dai Quang took an oath of office at his inaugural ceremony on April 2.

The 60 year-old former Minister of Public Security was the sole candidate recommended by the NA Standing Committee for the position of state president.

He pledged to be faithful to the nation, people and the party and try his best to fulfil his  tasks as an elected politician.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to the National Assembly for your trust," Quang said. "I will try my best to follow my predecessors to serve the people and develop the country into a strong nation."

In 2011, he was appointed Minister of Public Security. In the same year, he was promoted from lieutenant general to colonel general, and to general a year later.

He has been a member of the party central committee during the past three tenures,  member of the Politburo in the last two and a deputy in the 13th National Assembly.
