The popular southern central seaside city of Nha Trang is adopting measures to help the city’s homeless and beggars.

Speaking with DTiNews, Nguyen Sy Khanh, Vice Chairman of Nha Trang People's Committee, said that the 10-member group under the management of the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will help vagrants find sheltered accommodation and receive medical care.

The taskforce also includes a doctor who aims to help beggars with urgent medical problems.

While the homeless and those begging in the city will benefit, local citizens are also being offered rewards of VND100,000 for informing on the street people.

Nha Trang’s authorities believe they can eradicate begging from its streets by 2020, an ambitious target given the fact that wider social issues lead to such communities. The city claims it ‘collects’ around 250 beggars on streets.

To city is also trying to improve its image among tourists through publishing the names of those businesses that overcharge tourists on their website.

HCM City and Danang City have helped thousands of homeless people find jobs, while sending others back to their home province.
