A poor couple in the northern province of Nam Dinh are calling on financial support to help save their two ailing children.

The couple Pham Van Viet and Nguyen Thi Tin in Nghia Hung District has two children, one is six and the other is 11 months old. However, both of them are suffering from serious congenital diseases.

The eldest child was born blind due to cataracts. To date, despite taking the 6th operation, his eye condition has not greatly improved.

Tin said that when she was pregnant, she contracted measles. Doctors said that her foetus was not affected, so she decided to keep her child. However, her son was born blind.

Doctor Pham Thi Minh Chau at Central Ophthalmology Hospital said that Tin's son has become a familiar patient of the hospital. He will have to need more operations to ease the pain which are very costly.

The kids need help

Tin's 11-month old daughter was also diagnosed with heart diseases right after being born. She was taken to the three hospitals in Hanoi for the treatment, but, her condition has not improved. Doctors said she was too weak for an operation.

Now, the young mother has to stay at home to take care of her ill children. The family have more difficulties as they totally rely on a very small income of her husband who is a builder.
