A staff member working at Noi Bai International Airport has been suspended from work after being found for stealing an iPad from luggage of a passenger.

On July 28 afternoon, through a camera screen, some security officers of T2 terminal detected Nguyen Thanh Long, 24, ground baggage Vietnam Airlines’ Vietnam Airport Ground Services (VIAGS) staff, trying to hide an iPad in his raincoat suspiciously.

Initially, Long said that it was his iPad which he brought with him but forgot registering it with security officers before his work shift. However, after being questioned by the security officers at the airport, Long admitted that while carrying passenger luggage of flight VN7569 on Hanoi-Nha Trang route, he saw the iPad in a backpack and stole it.

A representative from Vietnam Airport Ground Services said that Long from Hanoi’s Dong Anh District has been working in the company since November 2014.

Long has been suspended from work for the inspection. If what Long admitted is true, he will be fired.

In September last year, the management of Noi Bai International Airport requested its staff to go through security screening and fill out asset declaration forms, in a new move to bar them from stealing luggage following many thefts that targeted the checked luggage of passengers and airborne goods previously.
