Quang Binh faces continued serious flooding

Torrential rain on October 30-31 has submerged many villages in the central province of Quang Binh.

According to Cao Xuan Tin, Vice Chairman of Tuyen Hoa District People’s Committee, the heavy rains have inundated many communes, particularly Van Hoa, Mai Hoa and Chau Hoa communes. Some localities have been 1.5 metres under water, meaning local residents were forced to evacuate from flooded areas.

The rainfall has also flooded many communes of Ba Don town and many streets in Dong Hoi city.

During the night of October 30, hundreds of households at Quang Hai Commune in Ba Don town evacuated their poultry and dealing with the flooding.

The water level of rivers in the province is rising high.

Meanwhile, according to a report from natural disaster prevention and control board in the central and Central Highlands region, between October 31 and November 5, central coastal localities will have heavy rains.

The report said that rivers between Nghe An and Ninh Thuan Province will have flooding and mountainous areas will face landslide and flash flood.

Two weeks ago, the low-pressure system made landfall in Quang Binh Province, bringing torrential rains measuring up to 700mm that flooded more than 27,000 houses in the province and killed at least six people. This was considered as one of the worst disasters in the province’s history.
