HCM City unveils top city events of the year

HCM City People's Committee announced its top 10 events in 2016 according to the city's and central press agencies.

Vo Van Hoan, chief of office at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said there were three notable political events, including the 14th NA election results, the launch of the city's hotline and the 40th anniversary of the end of the American War and Saigon named after Ho Chi Minh.

The list included two economic events, including the city's GDP five-year high increase to 8.05%. The local authorities also provided supportive regulations to start-up businesses.

In terms of urban planning, the city is providing clean water to basically all of the citizens. A food safety management board was established and a ceremony to honour silent philanthropists and organisations was held.

The city also opened a book street to encourage reading.

The conference with overseas Vietnamese to build a sustainable, rapidly developing and welcoming city was chosen as the top foreign affairs event of the year.
