Hung said that on December 24, 2016, while fishing some 160 nautical miles from Song Tu Tay Island of Khanh Hoa Province’s Truong Sa District, his boat found the two exhausted Filipino fishermen drifting at sea. He took measures to rescue the men.

The Filipino men said they had been in the sea since December 17 while their fishing boat faced an accident, leaving them seven days at sea.

The two fishermen have recovered and Phu Yen Province’s coastguards are completing procedures to return the two men to their country.
