Vietnamese-Danish project linking schools and companies kicks off

A workshop for the Danish-Vietnamese Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Project began on January 17, promising new opportunities for schools, companies, and workers.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and Denmark’s Ministry of Education, the workshop launches a two-year project that will pilot dual vocational education and training at four TVET schools, including two in Hanoi and two in Ho Chi Minh City. The project aims at enhancing cooperation between authorities, TVET schools, and enterprises in the furniture and graphic design sectors, addressing gaps relating to skills and competences of TVET school graduates and meeting what is required by enterprises and Vietnam’s labor market.

“By building links between line ministries in Vietnam and Denmark and by integrating vocational institutions and businesses as key partners, we have created a new and promising way to cooperate,” said H.E. Charlotte Laursen, Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam. “We prioritize graphic design and furniture as they are key sectors in the Vietnamese economy, as measured by employment and export value, and we hope that this two-year project will successfully contribute new ideas that can benefit all involved - people, institutions, companies and ministries.”

The Danish Embassy is part of the project’s steering committee, which also includes MoLISA, the Ministry of Education and Training, and Denmark’s Ministry of Children, Education and Gender Equality and Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

In order to implement the TVET Project, Local Occupational Skill Councils (LOSCs) will be set up and include representatives from companies, schools and local authorities. The LOSCs will work to identify skill needs in companies, provide input to curricula development, and develop models for organizing practice placements for TVET students and recruitment and the preparation of companies to engage in the training of TVET students in the workplace.
