Lunar New Year Festival celebrated nation-wide

Despite no firework displays, some big cities including Hanoi, HCM City, Hue or Hoi An were still glittering in the Lunar New Year Eve with colourful cultural celebrations.


Many people gathered at Ngoc Son Pagoda on the Hoan Kiem Lake on the Lunar New Year Eve.
Hoan Kiem Lake was among the most crowded areas in Hanoi on Lunar New Year Eve. Although there were no firework displays here this  year, the area was no less exciting than it was in previous years.

Many art shows were oragnised in the pedestrian streets around the lake, drawing a large crowd.



A music show was held at Ly Thai To Park.

According to some local people, they still enjoyed Tet atmosphere this year without the fireworks.



"The weather was great this Tet which helped us had more cultural events," 30-year-old Nguyen Tri Thanh said. "My wife, son and me will join with other people here the whole night."

In HCM City, Nguyen Hue Flower Street saw a huge number of visitors on New Year Eve. Many cafes with good views of the street were also full.


3D light shows were held in the ancient town of Hoi An. Thousands of domestic and foreign visitors were impressed by the light show that depicts the daily activities including trading and cultural events from the past.

The sculptures of dragons, phoenix and other sacred animals were illuminated at Kazik Park under various lanterns. Scenery of Hoi An Town, Quang Nam Province and other famous landscapes of Vietnam was also shown on the wall of a house on 31 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. 


The Hoai River also became colourful with many kinds of floating lanterns.

A German tourist, Emilia, said that she was very impressed by the Tet atmosphere in Hoi An.

"The lighting festival was really creative and thrilling," Emilia said. "Other decocations were also wonderful. I was very lucky to be here this time to enjoy Vietnamese New Year Festival."

In Hue City, many streets became more quiet when people flocked to parks, pagodas, and home gatherings.


At Le Loi Park, some giaint rooster statues attracted many visitors to admire and take photos. 


Huong River also became more crowded with young people on sailing tours.
