Low-cost carrier Vietjet Air (VJA) held a ceremony on February 18 to receive a certificate recognising the airline as an official member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Vinoop Goel, IATA regional director for airport, passenger and cargo security for Asia Pacific (fourth from left) presents the certificate to Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vietjet Air’s CEO.

The recognition is expected to contribute to improving the position of the modern airline in both the domestic and international aviation community.

In order to become an official member of the IATA, VJA won IOSA Certification from the IATA after just over three years of operation.

IATA is a unified and professional organisation representing, leading, and serving the world’s airline industry. It supports and increases the benefits of its members through granting international recognition, orienting priorities for the industry, promoting the implementation of innovation in the industry, operating media campaigns, training and other services.

On the same day, the Management Board of the High-tech Zone under the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee granted an investment certificate of the aviation technology centre to VJA.

The centre, which will be located in a total area of 5.54 hectares at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Zone, will commence construction in March. A full flight simulator, the first item of the project, is expected to be put into operation in 2018.

VJA set a target of developing the Aviation Technology Centre to become an international standard aviation research and training facility.
