Japanese emperor to visit Vietnam

Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will pay their first visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press release.

During the tour, the Japanese will meet with Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi, lay a wreath at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum; visit the Temple of Literature and meet former students who studied in Japan.  He will also come to see the Vietnam National University-Hanoi where Crown Prince Akishino, the second son of the Japanese emperor, offered a rare Japanese chicken specimen to exhibit and serve in scientific research, during his visit to Vietnam in 2012.

Akihito is scheduled to meet graduates that studied in Japan before leaving for Hue on March 3 to see the former capital and enjoy Hue royal court music. In Hue, he will also visit the memorial of Phan Boi Chau who contributed to the Japan-Vietnam relationship.

The Japanese group will leave Hue for Bangkok, Thailand on March 5.
