 >>  Hanoi still fails to fight against pavement encroachment
Police in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District have just started a new campaign to deal with encroachment on local pavements.

Police officers on Tuesday morning came to many streets including Hang Dao, Hang Buom, Duong Thanh and Hang Dieu to ask road-side shops to remove their lean-to roofs, posters and sign boards from the pavements.

Speaking with the Nguoi Lao Dong (Workers Newspaper), vice chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, Pham Tuan Long said that this was not the first time local police carried out raid on pavement encroachment.

"But we're going to have stricter measures this time to curb the violations," Long stressed. "The pavements will soon be cleared out for the pedestrians only."
