Chinese men charged for faking hundreds ATM cards

On March 6, two Chinese men who were found producing and using 160 fake ATM cards to steal money had their trial open at a court in Hanoi.

Tian Yun Yun, 30, from Jiangxi Province, learned about cameras and ATM machines in order to steal ATM card passwords. After that, he planned to make fake ATM cards in order to withdraw the money. Tian collaborated with Zhong Zheng, 17, from Guangxi Province, to gather money to buy the equipment for the plan.

They entered Vietnam in last May and rented a room in the Old Quarter. The two men started installing cameras at ATMs on Lang Ha Street and carried out the plan. They studied the images and successfully make 160 fake ATM cards.

On June 4, 2016, they withdrew VND210m (USD9,200) from 14 ATM cards. However, they were caught red-handed by the police of Ba Dinh District while stealing the money.

Customers have money returned to their accounts.

Tian is sentenced 7 years of imprisonment and Zhong is sentenced 30 months of imprisonment.
