Ha Long City has suspended three tourist cruise boats in Ha Long and Bai Tu Long bays.

The boats will be banned from operating sightseeing tours and overnight stays, the committee said in a decision on March 8.

The three boats, Calypso Cruise-QN-3015, Oriental Sail-QN-5789, and Starlight Cruiser-QN-7777 which are owned by Hai Phong Company Limited, will be temporarily suspended while investigations into their alleged violations are carried out.

Together with the temporary suspension of these three tourist boats, the committee also permanently banned six others including Hung Long QN-1156, Hoa Phuong 02 QN-4239, Quang Nam 06 QN – 1694, White Dolphin QN-4894, Sunrise QN-2287 and Aphrodite 11 QN-6299, which had been damaged by fire in the 2014-2016 period.

Earlier, Ha Long authorities also suspended and banned five tourist junks in February for safety violations.

The committee's action was carried out following rising number boat fires in Ha Long Bay in recent years, which have affected the province’s reputation among tourists.

The latest incident took place on March 6, when the cabin of a wooden boat, Huy Loc QN 3883, burst into flames. It was the third boat fire since the beginning of this year, after one with cruise boat Bhaya Legend on February 13 and one involving the Anh Duong QN 2598 on January 10.
