Mong Cai Border gate in Quang Ninh Province has faced long queues as the number of Chinese tourists to Ha Long Bay has sharply increased at the weekends.

In the past week, the number of tourists going through the gate daily increased to 15,000, including 5,000 Chinese nationals. During the weekend, the number of Chinese tourists at the border gate reached 10,000 tourists per day.

According to tour firms, more affordable trips for middle-income families have attracted many people to book the tours.

Most of the tourists came to visit Ha Long Bay for its scenery and its caves including Luon Cave. With 500,000 tourists arrived through the border gate last year, it is estimated that Quang Ninh Province earns about VND250bn (USD11m) from collecting visa fees alone and VND85bn from the ticket sales.

If customer services are implemented well, Quang Ninh Province will be able to earn huge revenues from its tourism and other related services.
