Fishermen in the southern coastal province of Binh Thuan on Monday buried a large whale which was found dead at sea.

A whale is found dead in Binh Thuan on May 14

According to border police in Mui Ne Ward, the whale, which is 13 metres in length and weighs around 15 tonnes, was spotted on Sunday afternoon by a local fisherman named Le Van Phung 17 nautical miles south-west of Mui Ne.

"Phung informed local authorities and took the whale to shore for burying at a whale temple following to local customs," a border policeman said.

Whale worshiping is a popular customs of Vietnamese fishermen who believe that the whale's spirits will protect them on the sea. Local fishermen will always try their best to save the stranded whales and bury and worship those found dead at whale temples.
