Danang City’s traffic police board announced that they will post the license plates of traffic violators caught on cameras on its official Facebook page every Wednesday from June 15.

Major Pham Hong Hai, an official from the department, said that the municipal police have been monitoring traffic offences via a system of surveillance cameras since last November.

Many traffic cameras installed to detect traffic violations in Danang

However, notifying violators so they can contact police and pay the fines was deemed “too slow a process,” and as a result, many people do not know that they have violated the law for a long time, Hai added. So, it would be quicker to publish the traffic offenders’ the license plates on the department’s Facebook page.

According to Major Hai, the offenders could have their licenses confiscated if they fail to comply with the notices they get on the Facebook page within 30 days.

To date, Danang has installed traffic cameras at nine locations with the highest traffic density, including Cach Mang Thang Tam and downtown intersections like Nguyen Van Linh-Tran Phu 2/9, Hung Vuong-Ong Ich Khiem.

The Facebook page of Danang City’s traffic police board has attracted 16,000 followers who provide many pictures of traffic violations as well as suggest opinions about how to improve traffic safety.
