The North-South railway section running through HCM City’s Thu Duc District experienced delays of nearly an hour Sunday afternoon due to heavy rain.

The rain started at around 3:30 pm and flooded many areas in several local districts of Binh Thanh, Thu Duc and Go Vap, causing traffic problems.

Two trains were delayed due to the flooding

The rain also resulted in the serious flooding for the North-South railway, halting the operation of two trains which ran through the locality at that time.

HCM City often faces flooding because of heavy rains and flood tides. To deal with the situation, the HCM City Steering Centre for Anti-flooding has been seeking approval from the municipal People's Committee for a USD65 million project to buy water pumping vehicles for dealing with flooding.

According to the centre, currently, around 30 local streets need this kind of vehicle, mostly in Tan Binh, Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts. The water will be pumped into canals which flow into Saigon River.
