Five houses in HCM City have fallen in a local river due to serious erosion on Tuesday, causing a total loss of hundreds of millions of VND.

Five houses collapsed due to erosion in HCM City on June 27.

The incident happened in the early morning of June 27 at the area near the bank of Kinh Lo River in Binh Chanh District’s Hiep Phuoc Commune.

Local resident Huynh Thi Phai said that while his family was sleeping, they heard a big noise. “We thought it was raining and got up to bring the clothes into the house. Unimaginably, part of our house cracked and then fell into the river”.

Do Minh Toan, Chairman of Hiep Phuoc Commune, the five households with 27 people in total have had half of their houses damaged, but luckily no deaths were reported. The incident caused an estimated VND290 million (USD13,180) in damages.

They are now living at their relative’s houses or rented houses. They may be supported to move to a neighbouring resettlement area for their safety.

This morning, the local authorities also found three more houses near the Kinh Loc River which were at high risk of collapse.
