The entire fees from the advertisements on the subsidised buses will go to the state budget. Meanwhile, non-subsidised buses can also be leased for advertising and the fees are not required to contribute to the state budget.

The Public Passenger Transport Management and Operation Centre said that during the one-year pilot advertisement on 10 routes with 171 buses, HCM City pulled in VND14.6 billion (USD663,630) and the figure could be USD7.7 million for more than 2,000 buses.

Under HCM City authorities’ regulations, the advertising should not cover more than 50% of a vehicle and must be made of durable materials that will survive all weather conditions.
