Kidnapped Vietnamese sailor in Philippines rescued

The Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam on August 21 announced that Do Trung Hieu, a kidnapped Vietnamese sailor, has been rescued by authorized agencies of the Philippines.

The department has contacted the Philippine authorized agencies to verify the information and instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines to prepare necessary measures and help the rescued sailor return home.

Do Trung Hieu and five other sailors, were abducted with their Royal 16 ship off Sibagu island of Basilan, the Philippines, in November 2016.

There were a total of 19 sailors aboard at the time of the attack. Pirates then released the ship and 13 sailors after kidnapping the six people.
