Cancer mother takes care of daughter with mental diseases
A poor mother in the southern province of Dong Nai is calling for the community help as she herself faces cancer, while her daughter suffers from mental diseases.
Trinh Kim Huong, 42 years old, in Bien Hoa City has two children, one is 15 years old and the other is four years old. They live in a 20 square-metre room in a small alley.
She has admitted the responsibility to take care of both of the children after the divorce with her husband two years ago. However, since they have had to live in a 20-square metre room of her mother.
Early this year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have surgery. She now can’t go to work and her family does not have any source of income, and just live on neighbour’s support.
Her eldest daughter Truong Thuy Vi, 15, has faced with mental diseases for four years. Due to the disease, Vi is often angry and sometimes destroys furniture. She is now up to 80 kilos because of bulimia. She even eats soap.
After the divorce, the husband has shirked his responsibility to support Huong to take care of the children. He also refused to come to visit them. Some of her neighbours voluntarily provide the family with rice every month.
Huong said she planned to work as a domestic helper, but her health was not good enough to do the work. She now has to still take chemotherapy treatment which is quite costly and causes her pains.
