58 dead in National Day holiday traffic accidents

As many as 75 traffic accidents took place in the three-day National Day holiday, resulting in 58 deaths and 58 injuries, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.

This year, Vietnam’s National Day holiday lasted for three days from September 2 to 4. Monday was also a holiday due to the date falling at the weekend.

The National Committee for Traffic Safety reported that on September 2, 14 traffic accidents left 14 people dead and nine injured. This increased to 35 cases with 22 deaths and 33 injuries on September 3 and 25 cases with 22 deaths and 16 injuries on the last day on Monday.

Most of the accidents occurred on road with 74 cases, causing 58 fatalities and 56 injuries.

The National Committee for Traffic Safety hotline received dozens of calls and messages about traffic problems and congestion on many roads, particularly those leading to resorts and tourist sites.

This year, the country aims to reduce road and railway accidents by 5 to 10% compared to 2016, and serious accidents involving railways, inland waterways and coaches by at least 5%.
